Dogs

Reba

Going on her 12th year, given to me as a "field trial washout", it's hard to say how many retrieves Reba has under her belt.  In her younger years, her speed, stamina, instinct, ability to mark downed-birds, and caring nature were her major strengths.  I know of several days that she has pulled off 60+ deep water retrieves and never skipped a beat.  Since those days, her age has slowed her and her other senses are losing their edge, but she still has the instinct and determination.  Now days, I would never ask her to work the "big days", but I know she wants nothing more.  Memories spent together are countless. She will always be "one of the best" that has owned me.

A true "hunter's dog" and family member, a meat retriever at its finest.

Angel

Only Daughter to Reba from a litter of 12, going into her 5th season and barely over 40 pounds, she was born with all of her mother's strengths and tops it off with an incredible nose.  This little speedster is determined to steal the spotlight on every hunt; just ask her, she will tell ya it's all about her.  She is my main companion for out of town trips or when conditions might be a little tough for Momma.  She saved miles on my feet last spring and does it with explosive speed.

Don't let Angel's cuddly nature, small size, and innocent name fool you.  The B.S. stops when she hits the field and if you try to take one of "her geese", you might be missing a hand.

Together Reba and Angel are an outstanding team on the water, with a close bond together.  Reba brings her experience and Angel, with her speed and great nose; they are a lot of fun to watch.  They double team diving cripples and neither wants to be left out of the last retrieve from a flock.

Though their untrained tactics may be ugly to the dog trainer, a great hunting retriever, for me, is watching the raw instinct unfold of what the breed was bred to do and getting the job done without me telling them what to do.

What kind of duck hunter would I be if I didn't brag about my Labs?
